Meet Nancy

I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective therapy for individuals, couples, and families in-office and via telehealth.

I am a licensed psychotherapist with over twenty-five years of experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who may be struggling with trauma, substance abuse, relationship stressors, communication issues, anxiety, depression, or general life stressors.

I have advanced training in substance abuse counseling and have spent over fourteen years working for Turning Point, an in-patient drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Essex County, where I worked with clients before they were healthy enough to return to their homes and families. It was through this work that I realized the importance of also focusing on the family members and the family system within which the individual suffering from mental illness is situated. These family members are often not as aware as they could be of the complicated behaviors and needs of individuals dealing with both substance abuse and mental health issues.

I became certified as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor to better enable myself to focus on this important work. It is the nature of a family that its members are intensely connected emotionally.  I have also completed two multi-year training programs: internal family systems (Bowen Family Systems) and multicultural families (Multicultural Family Institute).

For the last 12 years, I have been in private practice, offering individual, couples, and family therapy. I provide an individualized, holistic approach based on each client's unique needs. I strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where clients feel safe sharing their inner experiences, making contact with deeper parts of themselves, and confronting the challenges they want to overcome. How you view yourself, your relationship with others, and the world, is a starting point for our therapeutic experience working together. When we become aware of our long-standing emotions, beliefs, and relationship patterns, we can work on addressing, releasing, and moving past them.

My clients describe me as warm, compassionate, patient, and solution-oriented. I care very deeply about my work and my client’s experiences. While I am a good listener, my clients appreciate that I am an active and direct participant during sessions. I focus on helping my clients identify goals and make individual changes to achieve them.  While I integrate several modalities into my treatment, I specifically utilize structural family therapy to promote healthier boundaries in relationships and borrow from mindfulness techniques to build self-compassion as we work together to overcome self-doubt and create the environments needed to live more meaningfully.

I have also conducted multiple groups focused on adolescents and teens.  I have served on the Board of the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris counties since 2004. Finally, I have specialized experience working with law enforcement, legal, and court systems (CASA, local Domestic Violence Task Force, Violence Victim Advocacy, support for our Veterans, and support for restraining order victims).
